Whether you're here for the first time or you've been with us for a while, you're in the right place to discover the tools and insights that will help you build a stronger, more resilient life. My purpose is simple: to guide you toward living your best life by empowering you with the strategies and mindset shifts needed to connect with and enhance your resilience. Let’s embark on this journey together—because you’re stronger than you think, and your best life is within reach.
This week, I had the privilege of speaking with Calida, a passionate advocate for mental health and emotional well-being. Calida’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, self-forgiveness, and the courage to embrace change. Our conversation explored the depth of forgiveness, the importance of perspective, and the ways in which we can all connect with our inner strength.
The Power of Forgiveness
Calida’s story begins with her work at the VA in the suicide prevention grants program. But her passion project, the Forgiveness Mission, truly encapsulates her dedication to emotional healing. The mission hosts workshops that focus on four key areas of forgiveness: self, others, wellness, and the world at large. These workshops have become a beacon of hope for some individuals, providing a space for people to let go of past hurts and embrace a future filled with possibilities.
When asked if she had forgiven herself, Calida reflected on a failed relationship and the dreams that were tied to it. She shared how she was stuck in a place of pain and how it took years of self-reflection and personal development to heal. Through her journey, she learned that self-forgiveness is often the hardest but most crucial step in moving forward. It requires acknowledging our own pain, letting go of the past, and being gentle with ourselves as we navigate through the healing process.
Redefining Resilience
Resilience, as Calida defines it, is the ability to pivot and adapt when life doesn’t go as planned. We all have moments where our dreams and expectations fall apart, and it’s in these moments that resilience is truly tested. Calida’s perspective is that resilience isn’t about avoiding hardships but rather about how we respond to them. It’s about choosing to see the good, even in the darkest of times, and allowing ourselves to grow through the challenges.
Perspective plays a crucial role in this process. Calida emphasized that our outlook on life can either uplift or weigh us down. By choosing to focus on the positives, even in difficult situations, we can shift our experience of life from one of struggle to one of growth. It’s a reminder that while we may not control everything that happens to us, we can control how we perceive and respond to it.
Investing in Self-Development
One of the most impactful steps Calida took on her journey was investing in herself. She enrolled in self-development courses, joined mastermind groups, and participated in programs like the Landmark Forum. These experiences allowed her to gain new perspectives, heal old wounds, and build stronger relationships. Investing in self-development is not just about learning new skills; it’s about healing, growing, and becoming the best version of yourself.
Calida’s advice to those struggling to connect with their resilience is to recognize that the strength they seek is already within them. Change is inevitable, and it’s how we navigate that change that defines our resilience. By taking small steps forward, even when the path ahead seems unclear, we can gradually rebuild and move toward a brighter future.
Finding Joy and Connection
Joy, for Calida, is found in nature, family, and the simple pleasures of life. Whether it’s spending time by the water, going for walks on trails, or watching her children play, she finds happiness in moments of connection and presence. She also values acts of service and words of affirmation, which are her primary love languages. These expressions of love and support help her feel connected and valued by those around her.
Final Thoughts: Calida’s journey is a powerful reminder that resilience is not just about bouncing back from adversity; it’s about growing through it.
It’s about forgiving ourselves for the things we cannot change, embracing the inevitable changes life brings, and finding joy in the journey. By investing in our own growth and choosing to see the good, we can all cultivate resilience and live a life filled with purpose and fulfillment.
So, as you move forward in your own journey, remember Calida’s words: “Change is inevitable.” The only thing we truly control is our perspective. Find the good, take one step at a time, and know that you are enough.
