From Passion To Purpose: How One Woman's Journey Will Inspire You To Chase Your Dreams
Hey, Resilientites! I’m Naketa Ross, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Resilient Life blog, where we dive deep into the transformative power of resilience. Whether you're here for the first time or you've been with us for a while, you're in the right place to discover the tools and insights that will help you build a stronger, more resilient life. My purpose is simple: to guide you toward living your best life by empowering you with the strategies and mindset shifts needed to connect with and enhance your resilience. Let’s embark on this journey together—because you’re stronger than you think, and your best life is within reach.
In a world where resilience is critical, the ability to bounce back and continue forward despite the challenges we face is a skill that can lead to true empowerment. Urmi, a mentor, advocate for women’s empowerment, self-published author, and campaign manager, embodies this resilience in every facet of her life.
Based in Montreal, Urmi is a dynamic force. By day, she works full-time in the financial sector, but her passion for helping women find their inner strength goes well beyond her 9-5. Volunteering as a social media lead for Women in Leadership and acting as the campaign manager for Femme Influence, she spends her time giving back, mentoring, and inspiring others.
A Passion Born from Personal Experience
Urmi’s passion for women’s empowerment stems from a personal journey. Growing up, she often found herself searching for a mentor—someone who could guide her as she navigated school, work, and life. Unfortunately, that mentor was hard to find, which sparked a desire in her to become the mentor she never had. This led her to dedicate herself to supporting women, ensuring that they have access to the guidance and encouragement she once sought.
The Power of Resilience
When asked to define resilience, Urmi shared a powerful analogy: boxing. In boxing, when you’re knocked down, you don’t stay down. You get back up and keep fighting. To Urmi, resilience is the same. Life will inevitably throw challenges our way, but the key is to stand back up, dust yourself off, and continue forward. “It’s more important how many times you get back up,” she said, reminding us that setbacks are temporary detours, not permanent roadblocks.
Investing in Oneself
One of the most powerful ways Urmi celebrates herself is by investing in her growth. She emphasizes the importance of personal development, whether through learning new skills or expanding her knowledge. Recently, she’s been working on improving her Spanish, a reflection of her belief in continuous self-improvement. For Urmi, the best way to celebrate accomplishments is by continuing to grow.
The Joy of Connection
What made Urmi smile today? The opportunity to connect with like-minded people through platforms like podcasts. These interactions, where she can share her story and inspire others, are moments of joy and fulfillment for her. She believes in the value of authentic connections and cherishes the opportunity to uplift and empower others through her words and experiences.
Finding the Right Circle
When it comes to surrounding yourself with the right people, Urmi has learned through trial and error. She emphasizes the importance of choosing people who not only share your values but who also celebrate your successes. Over the years, she’s had to walk away from friendships that were not supportive, understanding that true friends are those who are genuinely happy for your achievements.
A Journey of Self-Discovery
One of the most significant achievements Urmi is proud of is the publication of her book Discover Your Identity: Rebirth from Interracial Struggle. In this self-published work, she explores the challenges of growing up as a South Asian woman in Italy, navigating cultural differences, and finding her place in the world. Her journey has been one of self-exploration and discovery, leading her to a place where she can now help others through her writing, mentoring, and advocacy.
Final Thoughts: In the words of Urmi, “It’s not about how many times you fail, but how many times you get back up.”
Urmi’s story is a powerful reminder that resilience is not about never falling down; it’s about always getting back up. Her journey, from seeking mentorship to becoming a mentor herself, highlights the importance of community, self-investment, and surrounding yourself with the right people. As Urmi suggests, resilience is about viewing setbacks as temporary and learning from every experience.
For those just starting their own journey toward better mental and physical health, Urmi offers simple but profound advice: Try everything and find what works best for you. Whether it's through journaling, working out, or finding the right circle of supportive people, the path to resilience is unique for everyone. The most important thing is to keep moving forward, stay true to yourself, and remember—it’s never too late to pursue your goals.
