My purpose is simple: to guide you toward living your best life by empowering you with the strategies and mindset shifts needed to connect with and enhance your resilience. Let’s embark on this journey together—because you’re stronger than you think, and your best life is within reach.
This week, I had an inspiring conversation with Dr. Nicole Bradford on resilience, purpose, and living authentically. Dr. Nicole Bradford is a transformative coach and educator whose program, “Maintain the Flame”, is designed to help individuals reconnect with their passion and purpose.
Dr. Bradford’s work is deeply rooted in helping people reignite that spark within them—the fire they may have forgotten amid life’s responsibilities. She walks alongside her clients as their accountability partner and biggest cheerleader. Together, they dive deep to rediscover the things that once made them excited to get out of bed.
One of the most powerful takeaways from our conversation was Dr. Bradford’s approach to reigniting passion. She said, “If you haven't identified or can't remember what excites you... I want to help you identify that. I want to reignite that fire inside of you so you can move forward and have the life that you desire.” This call to remember who we were before life’s demands took over is something that resonates deeply. It’s about getting back to the essence of what makes us unique and fulfilled.
We explored the idea that embracing who we are, even when it means standing apart from those around us, can be challenging. Whether it's starting a business or pursuing a degree, becoming true to yourself can mean losing connections with others who no longer align with your evolving self. Dr. Bradford shared her personal experiences with loss and transformation, defining resilience as the refusal to give up despite obstacles. “I believe resilience is when that individual refuses to give up. They’ve had doors closed in their face, they’ve lost people in their lives, and yet, they keep going,” she explained.
Her personal journey was deeply moving. Dr. Bradford has faced many hardships, including the loss of her parents and her battle with endometrial cancer. Yet, she continues to use these experiences as a platform for helping others, emphasizing the importance of faith and perseverance. She reminded us of the power of having just a mustard seed of faith, quoting, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains.” Her strength and ability to keep going, even in the darkest moments, exemplifies what it means to live a resilient life.
Our conversation turned to parenting, something Dr. Bradford holds dear. She lit up when speaking about her children, expressing how much joy they bring her. As parents, we discussed the vital role we play in being the foundation our children rely on, even as they grow into adulthood. Naketa spoke to Dr. Bradford about how our role as supporters doesn’t end when our children turn 18: “It’s about being there for them, always. And that requires us to be in a healthy place ourselves so we can show up for them.”
One of the highlights of the episode was our discussion about mental health. Dr. Bradford bravely opened up about her own journey through therapy, an often stigmatized topic, particularly in certain communities. “The healthiest thing I’ve done for myself is seek therapy and counseling. It helped me reflect, process my trauma, and ultimately grow,” she said. As someone who has also benefited from therapy, I can’t stress enough the importance of professional help when it comes to healing. Therapy isn’t about being weak; it’s about having the strength to do the hard work of self-reflection and growth.
Dr. Bradford also shared a powerful method for battling negative thoughts: “I remind myself of the lies, labels, and limitations the world may try to impose on me. I challenge those thoughts, sending them back. I replace them with positive truths.” This practice of shifting mindset is crucial to maintaining mental health, and it's something everyone can apply to their daily lives.
We wrapped up the conversation with a focus on joy—what brings us joy and how we maintain that joy through our busy lives. For Dr. Bradford, it’s about reconnecting with her faith every morning. She likened this to charging up a phone, emphasizing that just as our devices need recharging, so do we. This daily practice allows her to live her best life and continue pouring into others.
Final Thoughts: Dr. Bradford's story and insights are a reminder of the power we all have to design the life we desire, no matter what obstacles come our way.
Whether it's reigniting our passion, finding joy in our everyday lives, or tackling life's challenges with resilience, the message is clear: Never give up on yourself.
In a world that often feels overwhelming, it’s important to take time for yourself. Make yourself a priority, and reignite that flame within. Whether you’re struggling with your purpose, going through a difficult season, or simply trying to figure out what’s next, remember—you are capable of overcoming whatever life throws your way. You are resilient, and you deserve to live a life full of purpose, joy, and authenticity.
Take Dr. Bradford’s advice to heart: Grow through Your painful situations, and always “Maintain Your Flame.”
Let this be a call to action for anyone reading: Check in with yourself. What brings you joy? What reignites your flame? And if you’re not sure, perhaps it’s time to take that journey inward and rediscover the parts of you that are waiting to be awakened. If you need additional support, connect with a licensed therapist or a coach.
