Hey, Resilientites! I’m Naketa Ross, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Resilient Life blog, where we dive deep into the transformative power of resilience. Whether you're here for the first time or you've been with us for a while, you're in the right place to discover the tools and insights that will help you build a stronger, more resilient life. My purpose is simple: to guide you toward living your best life by empowering you with the strategies and mindset shifts needed to connect with and enhance your resilience. Let’s embark on this journey together—because you’re stronger than you think, and your best life is within reach.
In this episode of Resilient Life, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dominiece Clifton, a passionate wellness coach, entrepreneur, and mother who has dedicated herself to empowering women to build sustainable businesses while prioritizing their well-being. Our conversation touched on so many rich topics, from overcoming trauma to the power of resilience, and the need for self-care.
Dominiece shared her journey of transformation, which began with her own healing. Despite her life “checking all the boxes” on paper, she found herself unfulfilled, simply existing instead of truly living. A turning point came in 2020 when she was navigating marital issues, unemployment, and the challenges of parenting two young children during the pandemic. It was then that she received a message during meditation: to focus on her mind, body, and spirit for 90 days. This period of reflection and self-care was transformative, helping her reconnect with herself and igniting a passion for empowering other women to do the same.
One of the central themes of our conversation was the idea that as women—especially women of color—we are often taught to work harder, achieve more, and take care of others, all while neglecting ourselves. Dominiece is flipping that script, advocating for women to take care of themselves while pursuing their goals. She emphasizes that it’s not an either/or situation; you can be successful and take care of your well-being.
We also delved into the concept of living on autopilot. For Dominiece, autopilot was a symptom of being misaligned with her purpose. She shared that when we are constantly drained, fatigued, or feeling a sense of emptiness, it’s often a sign that we are not living in alignment with who we truly are. Journaling and self-reflection helped her recognize this misalignment, and she encouraged listeners to do the same by paying attention to their energy levels and emotions.
Dominiece’s approach to wellness goes beyond the physical. She highlighted the importance of reconnecting with the body, especially for those of us who have learned to disconnect due to trauma or stress. She talked about the emotional intelligence required to understand the difference between hunger and other emotions like loneliness or boredom, encouraging mindful eating and deeper self-awareness.
We also explored the importance of resilience. Dominiece emphasized that resilience is a skill that can be built over time, especially in the face of adversity. She explained how her entrepreneurial journey required her to develop resilience, and how reconnecting with her spiritual side has helped her remain strong and committed to her mission of helping others.
Throughout our conversation, Dominiece dropped so many gems, including the profound statement: "In order to fill the void, you have to feel the void." This resonated deeply with me, and I asked for her permission to use it in future podcasts. Her openness and wisdom were truly inspiring.
Dominiece reminded us of the importance of self-worth and the fact that we are all deserving of living a BIG, BOLD life. Whether you are navigating the challenges of parenthood, entrepreneurship, or personal growth, she encourages women to trust their journey and believe in their worth.
Final Thoughts; This episode was a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing our well-being, recognizing misalignment, and embracing resilience. Dominiece's story is a testament to the transformative power of self-care and soul care, and her insights offer a guide for anyone feeling stuck in the routine of daily life. Whether it’s through journaling, reconnecting with your body, or committing to a daily practice of self-care, the journey toward resilience and fulfillment is within reach for all of us.
Take a moment today to reflect on your relationship with yourself. Are you living in alignment with your purpose? Are you taking care of your mind, body, and spirit? Remember, you are worthy of the big, bold life you desire.
