Human connection and sequoia trees?

Naketa beautifully draws parallels between the interconnectedness of humans and the way Sequoia Redwoods connect through their roots. Just like these majestic trees, we, too, thrive when we are connected to one another. The strength and resilience of the Sequoia Redwoods remind us of the power that lies within our connections with others.
Through her profound insights, Naketa emphasizes the importance of fostering strong relationships and building connections that support and nourish us. Our relationships provide us with stability, strength, and a sense of community. By nurturing these connections, we can cultivate a sense of belonging and support that helps us weather life's challenges with confidence and grace.

[00:00:03] You are listening to Resilient Life, the podcast where we explore the power of resiliency. I'm Nikita Ross. It is my hope that listeners at this podcast will give you the tools to connect with and increase your resiliency.

[00:00:20] So join me on this adventure of self discovery and self love. This week's episode is about connection. It is my belief that everything is connected regardless of the differences you may see. This not only includes humans who may look or are different than you, but it also includes

[00:00:52] mountains, birds, trees, you get the point. I think we sometimes get so caught up in othering that we forget to unite, join, belong, connect. We all feel sadness, we all want to feel loved, we all want to feel joy, we all want the best

[00:01:19] for our friends, we all want the best for our family. I recently read an article by Matthew Johnson about the Sequoia Redwood trees. I want to start by stating that we know that trees are vital to our existence as humans.

[00:01:40] So we owe something to trees and it is my belief that we can learn from trees. Did you know that Reowatries, Roots, grow shallow and comparison to their size? It made me wonder how these trees grow so tall.

[00:02:01] If their root system is a quarter of the depth of other large trees, I learned that the Sequoia Redwoods function as a community to quote Matt, each tree is dependent on the other trees. Their roots answer time.

[00:02:22] They share support and nutrients because of this community that they have built in rely on, they can survive when fire earthquakes and storms. And they have been doing so since before humans walked this earth.

[00:02:45] I want you to think about one of the times you have faced a stressful situation. I can't speak for you but I know that more often than not, I try to handle it along.

[00:02:58] Have there been times where you have felt overwhelmed or like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. How did you handle it? Did you ignore it? Did you push it down deeper?

[00:03:12] Or, now met with food, sex, drugs, or alcohol, or even better? Did you dig deep and focus on fixing it all by yourself? And that same article, I learned that when plants focus on establishing roots,

[00:03:33] digging deep they often do not have the energy to blossom their fruit or flower above ground. To me, this is equivalent to me tiring myself out by trying to be superhuman and fixed a

[00:03:49] problem along. In my personal opinion, it's important to remember that it's okay to ask for help when face-mistress with situation. Seeking support from your friends or family or even a professional

[00:04:05] can make a huge difference in how we cope with challenges. Remember we don't have to face or go through tough times alone. By reaching out and sharing struggles, you may find new perspectives, solutions or a sense of relief. Embracing the support of others can be a powerful tool

[00:04:33] in navigating stressful situations. In addition to building and increasing your resiliency, imagine what humanity would look like if we took wisdom from Sequoia Redwoods, there would be no poverty or hunger. Humanity would thrive in ways that we have never seen before.

[00:04:58] Just like the interconnected roots of the Sequoia Redwoods, we would support each other through life challenges. We would share resources of lift one another and stand strong against all adversity that came our way. If we could embrace the spirit of unity and community, that these

[00:05:19] majestic trees exhibit, we could create a world where everyone is cared for, where compassion and empathy guide our actions, and where no one is left behind. It is through recognizing our interconnectedness that we can truly flourish as society and make this world a better place.

[00:05:46] I hope this episode gave you some tools to connect with and increase your resiliency. I'm proud of you. Let's keep up the momento, follow resilient life on your favorite podcast platform and on YouTube at Reset in Life Podcast. Until next time, be kind to yourself and others.
